Frequently asked questions

What training methods do you use?

Fortis Canine utilizes balanced training, incorporating all four quadrants of operant conditioning (positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment) to achieve optimal results and a strong owner-dog bond.

How long are the training sessions?

Training sessions typically last for an hour, but the duration in weeks may vary depending on the specific needs of your dog. The majority of the services I offer is for six weeks pending any inclement weather issues.

Do you offer group classes or only individual sessions?

Absolutley! Group classes build socialization skills, while private sessions offer customized training plans. Schedule your free consultation to determine the best fit for your dog.

How long is your average class?

Most of our basic classes are once a week for six weeks. Advanced classes will run longer.

Are you certified?

The dog training industry is unregulated; therefore, there are no requirements for certification or training to become a dog trainer. However, true professionals recognize that learning continues with every training session. I am personally certified through Highland Canine LLC's Master Dog School (960 hours of Veterans Administration-approved curriculum) and the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).

Do you have a refund policy?

Due to the individualized nature of dog training, refunds are not provided for lack of owner commitment. However, refunds will be considered if the client and I are not a good fit (e.g., the problem is outside my scope of expertise, the problem is medical in nature, or an emergency prevents course completion).

What do I need to bring to group classes?

For most classes, you'll need a flat collar, a good leash, a treat bag with treats, poop bags, and a clicker.

What do I need to wear to group classes?

Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor activities. For safety reasons, closed-toe shoes are required; swimsuits and revealing clothing are not permitted as dogs may jump and pull on clothing.

How many people are in your group class?

To ensure personalized attention, class sizes are limited to six to eight participants.

What form of payment do you accept?

Payment can be made securely via PayPal POS (which accepts Apple Pay), Venmo, or cash.

Do I need to fill out any forms?

Before beginning training, each client will need to complete a contract, liability waiver, and client intake form.
